Due to a brake line safety concern posing a crash risk, Ford Motor Company, a stalwart in American automotive history, is recalling over 270,000 of its well-known Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs.

This isn’t just a minor inconvenience—it’s a potential crisis given the gravity of the issue.

The brake lines could rub against other components, risking dangerous fluid leaks and heightening the chances for crashes.

More than 273,000 SUVs from model years 2022 to 2024 are part of this massive recall.

Ford discovered the defective brake lines that may leak fluid, decreasing braking efficiency and increasing crash risk.

The problem stems from front brake lines making contact with engine parts, specifically the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, a damage-prone design oversight.

The consequences are severe. Leaking brake lines can result in a longer brake pedal travel and significantly reduced deceleration.

Ford has acknowledged this, reinforcing the importance of rectifying the issue before it results in any accidents.

“A brake line leak may cause a longer than expected brake pedal travel and result in a reduction in the rate of deceleration,” stated Ford, cited by The New York Post.

The issue traces back to Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant, where improper radiator hose routing during assembly might have bent the brake line.

The recall comes after February investigations highlighted increased brake system warranty reports.

By mid-April, 45 warranty reports, two field reports, and two customer complaints had prompted Ford’s internal review.

If the brake fluid is rapidly depleted, braking distance dramatically increases, making the vehicle considerably more dangerous.

Ford assures customers that free inspections and repairs will be conducted through Ford or Lincoln dealerships.

They will replace brake lines or air cleaner outlet pipes as necessary and offer reimbursement for repairs already made, USA Today reports.

Notice of this recall will be sent out between May 26 and May 30, quickly after the dealers are informed on May 14.

Ford’s efforts to solve this issue expedite the timeline, ensuring customers’ safety is a priority.

Some might argue this is just a corporate maneuver to avoid public backlash, but with zero reported accidents or injuries so far, this preemptive action could be seen as a responsible approach.

Customers concerned about the status of their vehicle can reach Ford’s customer service at (866) 436-7332.

While no one welcomes a recall of this magnitude, Ford’s swift action may prevent potential disasters.
