(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer accused the Justice Department of attempting to hide the alleged wrongdoings of the Biden family. This follows Attorney General Merrick Garland’s decision to appoint U.S. attorney David Weiss as a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden.
Comer stated: “This move by Attorney General Garland is part of the Justice Department’s efforts to attempt a Biden family coverup… The Justice Department’s misconduct and politicization in the Biden criminal investigation already allowed the statute of limitations to run with respect to egregious felonies committed by Hunter Biden.”
Attorney General Garland revealed that Weiss had sought special counsel authority. After contemplation, Garland granted it, allowing Weiss to proceed without traditional DOJ oversight. Garland emphasized that this move showcases the department’s dedication to “independence and accountability.”
Weiss had previously expressed having “ultimate authority” over the investigation despite allegations from IRS whistleblowers about interference by the IRS, DOJ, and FBI. These whistleblowers disclosed that they had recommended felony charges against Hunter Biden. They also noted that Weiss made multiple prior requests for special counsel status, which the DOJ denied.
In addition, Comer alleged DOJ misconduct, suggesting they warned the Biden transition team and Hunter’s lawyers of impending actions and were attempting to grant Hunter a lenient plea deal.
This proposed deal, in which Hunter would admit to minor tax charges and follow a diversion agreement on a felony gun charge, was recently disrupted by Judge Maryellen Noreika due to its broad immunity clauses. Prosecutors later confirmed that this deal was off the table, and the case is likely headed to trial.
Comer further criticized the DOJ, asserting it obstructed congressional oversight. Weiss’s special counsel status now protects him from being compelled to testify before the Oversight Committee. Recently, Comer revealed that the committee discovered bank records suggesting Hunter received $20 million from foreign oligarchs during Joe Biden’s vice presidency.
The Trump campaign also commented on the situation, accusing the Bidens of longstanding protection from the Justice Department. They emphasized the need for an impartial investigation and raised concerns about the findings on Hunter’s laptop.
Comer affirmed the committee’s commitment to continuing its investigation into the Bidens.
