(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – A violent incident in which a woman’s former boyfriend held her father at gunpoint was resolved after her mother shot and killed the threatening attacker, according to police reports.
The incident occurred in Salem, a town of 6,000 people in Central Indiana, at around 6:30 p.m. last Monday, The New York Post reports, citing local police.
45-year-old Michael Chastain, the former boyfriend of the elderly couple’s daughter, drove into the front yard of their home in the 7700 block of South Organ Springs Road in Salem.
The attacker grabbed the elderly man who owns the house, pushed him to the ground, and pointed a gun at his head, according to local news outlet WDRB.
According to reports, Chastain’s ex-girlfriend no longer lives at the house that he attacked, and the precise motives for his actions and any disputes he may have had with her parents remain unknown.
As he held the father at gunpoint, the older man’s wife saw what had just happened from inside the house and acted immediately.
She took out her handgun and shot and mortally wounded the violent intruder.
“[Chastain] exited his vehicle and put a firearm toward the homeowner’s head. The homeowner’s wife observed the altercation that occurred, walked outside with a firearm, and eventually shot Chastain,” explained Indiana State Police Sgt. John Davis, as cited by WLKY.
When the police arrived, they found Chastain lying in the house’s front yard with a gunshot wound.
The attacker was rushed to Saint Vincent Hospital but died on the road of his injuries and was pronounced dead by the ER doctors.
According to the Indiana State Police, the man killed was well-known to law enforcement and had a hefty criminal record.
The police have confirmed that he indeed used to date the daughter of the elderly couple whom he attacked.
The case remains under investigation by the Indiana police and the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
However, the female homeowner who seemingly saved her husband’s life has not been charged.
