(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – In a new highly partisan move that has angered millions, Joe Biden reversed a decision of his predecessor, Donald Trump, to move the US Space Command headquarters to Alabama and is keeping it in Colorado.
On Monday, Biden ordered the US Space Command to remain in Colorado Springs, Colorado, The Washington Times reports.
Then-President Donald Trump re-established the space command in 2019 after it was shut down in 2002. He had decided to relocate it to Huntsville, Alabama.
According to the US Defense Department, Biden’s new basing decision – which has completely infuriated Alabama’s US lawmakers – resulted from “an objective and deliberate process.”
It argued avoiding the relation would spare the US Space Command operational delays and disruptions.
Huntsville came out ahead in an evaluation by the Government Accountability Office. Still, according to The Times, Biden’s military advisers were split on which one of the two sites to choose.
However, US Rep. Dale Strong (R-AL), who represents Huntsville, slammed Biden’s decision as politically motivated and “shameful.”
“It is clear to anyone who has looked at the facts: Huntsville, Alabama, is the best place for US Space Command headquarters. It is shameful that the Biden administration is ignoring what is best for our nation’s security and is instead using their ‘woke’ agenda to make this decision,” Strong told AL.com.
It is noted that Huntsville was selected to host the Air Force’s US Space Command over a “fierce competition” with 59 other cities. The top three choices were in “red” states – Alabama, Nebraska, and Texas.
“Mr. Biden’s decision to override the choice in favor of retaining the facility in a reliably Democratic state like Colorado looks like political patronage, critics said,” The Times points out.
GOP US Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama also attacked Biden for deciding to keep USSPACECOM in Colorado.
He said the only thing that changed since the selection process started under Trump is the “political party of the sitting president.”
“Now, they are putting Space Command headquarters in a location that didn’t even make the top three [choices],” he said.
Biden’s White House is already fighting a months-long battle with the powerful GOP senator after he placed a hold on military promotions for generals and admirals to protest the Pentagon’s new policy of covering service members’ travel expenses for out-of-state abortions.
