Biden Takes Direct Aim at Russia

Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden

( – In a move that many GOP members of Congress believe unwise, President Joe Biden announced a plan to slap more sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine in a speech just days before the first anniversary of Moscow’s attack.

Speaking in Poland’s capital of Warsaw, Biden did not provide specifics about the new anti-Russian sanctions.

Before arriving in Poland, he made a surprise visit to Ukraine’s capital Kyiv in a show of support for the embattled nation fighting off Russia’s full might since February 24, 2022.

Biden’s speech before the Royal Castle in Warsaw came several hours after Russian leader Vladimir Putin addressed the Federal Assembly in Moscow, accusing the West of all possible sins against Russia.

Putin also declared that the Russian Federation would not agree to renew the New START nuclear arms treaty, which expires in 2026.

“Together, we made sure Russia is paying the price for its abuses. We continue to maintain the largest sanctions regime ever imposed on any country in history,” Biden declared.

“And we are going to announce more sanctions this week together with our partners,” he added, as cited by Breitbart News.

“We will hold those accountable for those responsible for this war and will seek justice for the war crimes and crimes against humanity continuing to be committed by the Russians,” the US president elaborated.

According to the US Department of State, the United States has already imposed about 1,500 new sanctions on Putin’s Russia and has amended about 750 already existing sanctions and export controls.

The report pointed out that the US measures have hurt Russia’s weapons production, degraded the wealth of Putin’s oligarchs, and blocked about $300 billion worth of assets owned by the Russian Central bank.

“I am forced to announce today that Russia is suspending its participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. The West uses Ukraine as a ram against Russia,” Putin declared in his speech on Tuesday.

He blasted the Western nations for what he called moral rot or “spiritual catastrophe.”

“They distort historical facts and constantly attack our culture, the Russian Orthodox Church, and other traditional religions of our country,” the Moscow leader declared.

Almost the entire first hour of his 90-minute speech was filled with attacks on the West.

“Putin has taken to raising social and religious issues during remarks about Ukraine without offering any direct connection,” commented Breitbart News contributor Frances Martel.

The report noted that in September 2022, when he announced Russia’s annexation of four occupied regions in Southern Ukraine — one of which was liberated shortly after that — Putin insulted Western nations as “Satanic.”
