(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – In a development that has made patriots cheer, radical leftist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has stumbled in her bid for prominence, losing her race for the top Democratic spot on the powerful House Oversight Committee to veteran Congressman Gerry Connolly.

With a 131-84 vote, this setback highlights the Democratic Party’s choice for experience over youthful zeal, leaving many questioning the future direction of the progressive movement.
Ocasio-Cortez, representing the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, faced off against Connolly, a moderate from Virginia.
The contest drew attention as a significant bout within the party, reflecting its internal divide.
Connolly, a committee member since 2009, emphasized his extensive experience as a key qualification for the role.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus rallied behind Ocasio-Cortez, while Connolly received backing from the New Democrat Coalition.
Notably, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly lobbied for Connolly, reinforcing the preference for establishment figures over progressive newcomers.
Reflecting on her loss, Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the role’s significance, especially during Donald Trump’s anticipated second term.
Despite her strong campaign, the Steering Committee’s recommendation for Connolly to take the position due to his experience prevailed.
“Tried my best. Sorry I couldn’t pull through everyone – we live to fight another day,” AOC said, cited by NY1.
Connolly, addressing his recent bout with esophagus cancer, assured his peers of his continued capability to lead.
He expressed gratitude to those who supported him and criticized Republicans for their alleged use of “debunked conspiracy theories” during Trump’s previous administration.
Connolly prepared himself and his colleagues for what he described as upcoming “trench warfare.”
This leadership struggle also opened the door for younger Democrats such as Rep. Angie Craig and Rep. Jared Huffman, who have secured significant committee positions.
While Ocasio-Cortez did not win the spot, the generational shift continues to gain momentum within the party.
“I think my colleagues were measuring their votes by who’s got experience, who is seasoned, who can be trusted, who’s capable and who’s got a record of productivity and I think that prevailed,” said Gerry Connolly, cited by AP.
The 119th Congress is set to convene on January 3, 2025, under a narrow Republican lead in the House.
As the political dynamics unfold, it remains to be seen how the Democrats’ internal generational tension resolves amid wider national challenges.
Seems @RepAOC suffered a huge blow.
