(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – BREAKING NOW: Breaking the time-honored tradition of not engaging in domestic politics while on foreign soil, today Joe Biden threatened Republican U.S. House of Representatives members while attending an international conference in Hiroshima, Japan.
Specifically, he threatened to do what no American president has ever done — invoke to 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution as a means to violate the congressionally imposed debt ceiling by claiming he has the power as president to ignore the role of Congress when it comes to the establishment of the debt ceiling.
The first sentence of Section 4 of the 14th Amendment states: “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.”
It is that clause that Biden believes gives him the power to keep spending beyond the debt ceiling.
In his own words, Biden stated:
“I’m looking at the 14th Amendment … I think we have the authority. The question is, could it be done and invoked in time … We have not come up with unilateral action that could succeed in a matter of two weeks or three weeks. That’s the issue. So it’s up to lawmakers.”
Speaking about Republicans in the House and where he and they differ on the debt ceiling battle and spending priorities, Biden stated:
“My point is that there’s a lot of things that they refuse to entertain, and they just said that revenue is off the table. Well, revenue is not off the table. And so that’s what we continue to have a significant disagreement on, on the revenue side.”
Bottom line: As one political pundit noted today, “the United States is moving ever closer to either defaulting on the national debt or seeing an American president ignore the legislatively imposed debt ceiling by invoking the 14th Amendment and ordering the Treasury Department to keep paying the country’s debts.”
