(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – In a huge new endorsement for Donald Trump just days after the one by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the GOP presidential nominee has now been endorsed by another high-profile Democrat-turned-independent – former US Rep. Tulsi Gabbard.
Gabbard, who redefined her political alignment as an independent in 2022, declared her support for Trump on Monday, coinciding with his speech at a National Guard Association conference in Detroit.
In his address, Trump critiqued President Joe Biden’s approach to the military exit from Afghanistan, marking its third anniversary, National Review reports.
“I am committed to doing all that I can to send President Trump back to the White House, where he can once again serve us as our commander-in-chief,” Gabbard proclaimed at the event, asserting Trump’s potential to avert US involvement in foreign wars.
Gabbard, who served in the Hawaii Army National Guard, emphasized Trump’s view of war as a measure of last resort.
She contrasted Trump’s understanding of presidential responsibilities with that of Vice President Kamala Harris, highlighting the significant accountability a president holds regarding the lives of US servicemembers.
Trump expressed his appreciation for Gabbard’s support, stating, “I’m honored to officially welcome” her to his campaign, and commended her “great common sense, great spirit,” and patriotism.
Gabbard, a former Democratic US Representative for Hawaii from 2013 to 2021, was known for her critical stance against party lines, particularly during the Democratic nomination race in 2020.
In a notable debate, she criticized Harris for her prosecutorial record.
“She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana,” Gabbard criticized.
“She blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row until the courts forced her to do so. She kept people in prison beyond their sentences to use them as cheap labor for the state of California, and she fought to keep [a] cash-bail system in place that impacts poor people in the worst kind of way,” the former Democrat elaborated.
As the election approaches, Gabbard has been involved in preparing Trump for his upcoming debate against Harris, scheduled for September 10 on ABC News.
However, Trump has hinted at possibly boycotting the debate due to perceived media bias.
The inclusion of Gabbard in Trump’s debate preparations was confirmed by his campaign early this month.
