The brazen theft involved valuable personal items, sparking concerns over how such individuals freely operate in the country.

The continued search for a second suspect only adds to the tension and highlights the challenges facing law enforcement.

An illegal immigrant was apprehended for stealing Kristi Noem’s Gucci bag containing $3,000 in cash and personal belongings.

The theft took place during an Easter outing at The Capital Burger in Washington, D.C.

The stolen bag also contained Noem’s driver’s license, passport, DHS badge, and apartment keys.

The suspect, believed to be part of a large east coast robbery crew, was arrested by DC Metro Police and the Secret Service.

A second suspect, reportedly another illegal migrant, remains at large.

DC US Attorney Ed Martin stated, “There is no indication it was because of that,” referring to Noem’s high-profile position.

The Gucci bag, valued at $4,400, was taken from the ground near Noem’s table.

Security footage showed a man in a mask and dark clothing cleverly stealing the bag.

Noem recounted the theft, saying the suspect used his foot to move the bag and covered it with a coat.

“It was kind of shocking, actually, because it was sitting right by my feet. I actually felt my purse — he hooked with his foot and drug it a few steps away and dropped a coat over it and took it,” she said, cited by The New York Post.

The Secret Service, responsible for Noem’s security, has not confirmed their presence during the theft.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is involved, and the suspects face deportation.

DHS has not commented on the incident, and Noem has yet to provide a statement as the investigation continues.

The investigation is jointly conducted by the Metropolitan Police and U.S. Secret Service.

Despite the theft’s swift execution, authorities remain vigilant to prevent future incidents.

Homeland security is paramount, and such criminal acts by illegal migrants spotlight the urgent need for strong immigration enforcement.

“President Trump’s direction to us is we charge these folks that are here illegally and we prosecute them, as well as deport them when need be, you know, as soon as that can happen,” said DC US Attorney Martin.
