As our national anthem played, Canadian attendees disrespected the symbol of American pride.
This affront to the anthem raises concerns over diminishing respect for American values.
At the WWE Elimination Chamber event on March 1, 2025, held at Toronto’s Rogers Centre, a disturbing display of anti-American sentiment unfolded.
Fans booed loudly as American singer Elizabeth Irving performed our cherished national anthem.
This event was livestreamed on Peacock, featuring notable stars like John Cena and Logan Paul.
The boos intensified during the poignant lyrics, “and the rockets’ red glare,” further highlighting the derogatory display.
The event marked the 15th installment of WWE’s Elimination Chamber series and the return of pro wrestler Jade Cargill to WWE TV.
Recently, tensions have risen due to President Donald Trump’s comments about Canada and his recent tariff impositions.
This booing incident follows Trump suggesting Canada should become the 51st state to address a perceived $200 billion loss related to Canada.
Pat McAfee, a sports analyst, didn’t mince words when he called Canada “a terrible country” following their disdainful actions.
“Kinda sucks that [the event’s] in the terrible country of Canada that booed our national anthem to start this entire thing,” McAfee said, cited by Deadline.
This sentiment echoes among many patriots who view such behavior as an affront to American respect and unity.
The booing, appearing as part of an ongoing tension, is a retaliatory act mirroring previous Canadian incidents.
This hostility has seen multiple occasions of the U.S. anthem being booed at various Canadian sports events, including an NHL hockey game and a Toronto Raptors match.
The Canadian crowd’s actions are in line with a broader pattern of deteriorating respect shown at international sporting events.
Such behavior, observed during the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, resulted in brawls between Canadian and American players, further escalating diplomatic tensions.
“I think Canada would be much better off being the 51st state because we lose $200 billion a year with Canada. And I’m not going to let that happen. Why are we paying $200 billion a year, essentially a subsidy to Canada?” Trump stated previously.
American hearts remain heavy, as our anthem’s booing underpins larger unresolved transnational issues.
