(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – A tip from an informant probably brought about Monday’s FBI raid of former President Donald Trump’s home in Palm Springs, Florida, according to a retired federal agent.
More than 30 FBI agents searched Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence for several hours throughout the day, reportedly seeking White House records that he may have brought with him after his term in office.
According to Michael Tabman, a former Special Agent in Charge, the FBI may have received a claim that the former president’s home is housing classified papers from somebody offering “information indicating that these documents are there.”
“I think there was inside information – call it an informant if you want,” Tabman told The Daily Mail, as cited by Newsmax.
“I believe either someone told them something or some other information was stumbled upon, which was kind of conclusive in their minds that they had to go now to get that, or they’re not getting it,” said the former agent who served in the FBI for 24 years.
In his words, a search operation of such proportion and “political sensitivity” probably took approval from President Joe Biden’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland.
“I believe the Attorney General approved it himself given the sensitivity,” Tabman said.
At the same time, however, he noted it may be possible that the raid was assigned to some of Garland’s deputies to “avoid perceptions since he is a political appointee.”
The retired FBI officer speculated further that after a high-level DOJ approval, the proposal for the search was then brought to a judge who okayed the warrant based on “probable cause.”
“[I] can’t think of this having happened to a former president,” Tabman said, even as he made it clear he doesn’t believe any protocols were violated with the raid on Trump’s residence.
The search operation has been condemned by a wide range of conservative figures and GOP politicians, including former Vice President Mike Pence, even as he hasn’t been on good terms with his former boss since they left office.
“I share the deep concern of millions of Americans over the unprecedented search of the personal residence of President Trump,” Pence posted on Twitter.
“Yesterday’s action undermines public confidence in our system of justice, and Attorney General Garland must give a full accounting to the American people as to why this action was taken, and he must do so immediately,” he argued.
