(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – The US Department of Justice has stepped up its investigation into the January 6, 2021, breach of the US Capitol as, over the past week alone, it has issued some 40 new subpoenas and has seized the phones of at least two more advisors of former President Donald Trump.
Both advisors who have now been targeted with phone seizures by President Joe Biden’s DOJ have been vital to former President Donald Trump.
These are Mike Roman, a campaign strategist, and longtime adviser Boris Epshteyn, according to a report by The New York Times cited by The New York Post, which describes the new DOJ moves as “dramatics.”
The NY Times cites unnamed sources as saying that federal agents took the two men’s phones away last week.
The two Trump advisors in question are suspected of involvement in an alleged plot to employ false electors to keep Donald Trump in office by overturning the results of the 2020 election.
Besides that, Biden’s Department of Justice, led by Attorney General Merrick Garland, has subpoenaed a diverse group of allies to the 45th President of the United States. These range from the most high-profile advisors to “low-level aides.”
Those claimed to have been subpoenaed are former NYPD commissioner Bernard Kerik and Dan Scavino, a former social media director for Trump.
Many of the DOJ-issued subpoenas are looking into the alleged” fake electors plot,” under which electors supporting Trump would have been submitted on behalf of swing states won by Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
The report says that previous subpoenas of the DOJ have targeted Trump lawyers such as Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, and Jeffrey Clark. Federal investigators have already seized Clark and Eastman’s phones.
State GOP legislators in Pennsylvania were also subpoenaed last month as part of the “fake electors plot” investigation.
Other subpoenas are said to be looking into the work of former President Donald Trump’s Save America PAC, which he set up after the 2020 election.
The feds are particularly interested in the Save America PAC’s fundraising, which the investigators think Trump managed to collect by claiming to fight “unfounded election fraud,” as per the report.
The DOJ investigation into the January 6, 2021 events at the US Capitol is separate from that of the House select committee on the same topic.
It is also separate from another federal investigation – into the alleged classified government papers found in his Florida residence during an FBI raid last month.
