(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – Social media giant Facebook has finally decided to end its policy of allowing illegal aliens to use the platform to contact human traffickers to smuggle them into the United States.
In a policy memo, Facebook practically admits that the scandalous policy has amounted to “human exploitation” as it “overlaps” with human trafficking.
As early as 2017, there were ads on Facebook promoting human smuggling, with various organized crime gangs advertising their “services” for trafficking illegal immigrants to the United States or Western Europe, Breitbart News reported.
Another Breitbart report noted in 2021 that one of the biggest Mexican mafia groups, the Gulf Cartel, is already making more money through human trafficking than drug trafficking. 2021 was President Joe Biden’s first year in the White House, which saw the immediate relaxing of his predecessor Donald Trump’s tighter border control policies.
An internal Facebook memo leaked by The Washington Free Beacon earlier this year showed its executives thought a crackdown on human smuggling communications would create problems for illegal immigrants using the platform “to seek safety or exercise their human rights.”
It appears that Facebook has reconsidered. In a new policy memo on “human exploitation,” the platform admits that people smuggling “can be related and exhibit overlap” with human trafficking.
The Facebook memo said that human trafficking is an “abuse” of a “coercive nature,” in which “victims cannot consent.”
At the same time, it sought to differentiate between human trafficking and “smuggling.”
“Without necessity for coercion or force, [human smuggling] may still result in the exploitation of vulnerable individuals who are trying to leave their country of origin, often in pursuit of a better life,” the document reads.
“Human smuggling is a crime against a state, relying on movement, and human trafficking is a crime against a person, relying on exploitation,” the Facebook memo concluded.
The new document comes after another Meta subsidiary, the social media platform Instagram, introduced greater transparency on “shadowbanning,” that is, the secret suppression of posts.
The new Instagram tool lets users know whether their posts are limited to being seen by followers and friends.
“Both [changes] suggest that Facebook is quietly stepping away from the priorities of the progressive left, dialing back support for illegal immigration on the one hand and secret censorship on the other,” Breitbart News points out.
It adds the changes in Meta’s subsidiaries, Facebook and Instagram, come as over at Twitter, the new owner, Elon Musk, “moves rapidly in a similar direction, releasing swathes of internal communications about the censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story and the ban of Donald Trump.”
Musk has also disbanded Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council, described as an external advisor panel packed with “leftist nonprofit, academic, and activist organizations.”
Facebook is ending a policy that allowed illegal immigrants to use the platform to seek people smugglers to ferry them across the U.S. border, admitting that much of the activity is tantamount to “human exploitation” and “overlaps” with human trafficking.https://t.co/1qjANmZ083
