A recent report dragged a number of skeletons from the medical expert’s closet and launched a slew of debate over his ethics. Now, a watchdog group is stepping forward to present the doctor’s next major scandal.
White Coat Waste Project Intervenes
The White Coat Waste Project (WCW) is a watchdog group that has taken up the mantle of protecting taxpayer dollars. They focus on identifying wasteful government spending directed towards animal experimentation. Once the organization identifies an example, they expose it and press for reform.
WCW’s latest release implicates Anthony Fauci. The watchdog group says it found four different instances in which Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease funded animal experimentation on beagles. Documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) support these claims, making it challenging to dispute the origins of the money involved in these experiments.
WCW Findings
These four experiments first came to light five years ago, in 2016. That’s when WCW first began reporting on the questionable findings.
The first experiment involved sand flies constantly biting the beagles. All subjects eventually developed lesions. Researchers then euthanized and dissected them.
The second experiment, which also focused on beagles, followed similar lines. Researchers intentionally infected dogs with parasites carried by flies. They then injected them with a vaccine before euthanizing and dissecting them — the same fate as the first batch of dogs.
The third experiment was even more disturbing. Fauci and NIAID sent funding to a lab in Tunisia, which lacks restrictive laws on animal experimentation. Instead of just exposing dogs to flies this time, they drugged the animals and locked their heads in mesh cages filled with hundreds of insects. NIAID didn’t bother to maintain a presence in Tunisia, meaning that they didn’t have anyone on site who could moderate or rein in the scientists.
The latest, and in the eyes of many, most heinous, experiment came to light this year. Experts performed a cordectomy on a number of dogs. The more common name for this procedure is “debarking”; it involves cutting the animal’s vocal cords to keep them from vocalizing out of stress, pain, or overexcitement. This procedure would presumably benefit the scientists by cultivating a quieter workspace — but was it ethical?
What About Fauci?
The total cost of these experiments? A whopping $21 million and countless canine lives. That’s enough of a problem all on its own. Yet, many taxpayers want answers from Dr. Fauci, who directly arranged funding for these heinous projects. The WCW continues to fight for better use of experimental finances.
As for Fauci, many people are painting him as a lying dog hater on social media. On Twitter, the hashtag #FireFauci continues to trend, with over 150,000 posts from those who disagree with the doctor’s actions. That has many wondering if he might resign in the near future.
