(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – According to a report, the FBI is hiding from the United States Congress a document claiming Joe Biden received bribes during his tenure as vice president.
The document in question, an informant file containing corruption claims about Biden, was subpoenaed from the federal agency last week by Rep. James Comer, the Republican Chairman of the Oversight Committee of the US House of Representatives.
The FBI has refused to hand over the file even though Comer’s subpoena is legally binding, thus setting the stage for possible legal action over access to it, The New York Post reveals.
Instead of providing the requested document, the FBI responded to the House Oversight Committee with a six-page objection letter penned by Christopher Dunham, the acting assistant director for congressional affairs.
“Information from confidential human sources is unverified and, by definition, incomplete,” wrote Dunham.
He insisted informant reports had to remain private to protect the sources of the federal law enforcement agency.
“As is clear from the name itself, confidentiality is definitional to the FBI’s Confidential Human Source program,” the FBI official argued.
“Confidential human sources often provide information to the FBI at great risk to themselves and their loved ones. The information they provide also can create significant risks to others who may be referenced in their reporting,” he elaborated.
Dunham appealed to the House Oversight Committee to “understand” why the FBI refused to expose the document about then-Vice President Joe Biden.
“We … hope this helps you understand that keeping this kind of source information free from the perception or reality of improper influence — and preventing the redirection of this information for non-law enforcement or non-intelligence uses — is necessary for the FBI’s effective execution of our law enforcement and national security responsibilities,” the agency official concluded.
House Oversight Chairman Comer (R-KY) reacted strongly to Dunham’s letter but didn’t say what steps he would take further.
“It’s clear from the FBI’s response that the unclassified record the Oversight Committee subpoenaed exists, but they are refusing to provide it to the Committee,” Comer stated.
“We’ve asked the FBI to not only provide this record, but to also inform us what it did to investigate these allegations. The FBI has failed to do both. The FBI’s position is ‘trust, but you aren’t allowed to verify.’ That is unacceptable. We plan to follow up with the FBI and expect compliance with the subpoena,” the Kentucky Republican elaborated.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the FBI doubled down on the argument that an informant file’s information might not be credible or valid.
“An FD-1023 form is used by FBI agents to record unverified reporting by a confidential human source. Documenting the information does not validate it, establish its credibility, or weigh it against other information verified by the FBI,” the spokesperson said.
The news that the FBI has snubbed Comer’s subpoena was first broken by Republican US Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who passed a whistleblower’s tip about the document to the House Oversight chief.
“They didn’t give us the unclassified document. They sent us a five or six-page letter that I haven’t studied thoroughly yet,” Grassley commented at the Capitol.
“They didn’t dispute that it exists — that the document exists or that it is unclassified … why they haven’t given it, I don’t know,” he added.
The subpoenaed document is an FD-1023 informant report “created or modified in June 2020″ — months before Biden won the presidency, the report points out.
