(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – A carjacking attempt in Chicago ended with a critically wounded wannabe carjacker after the victim turned out to be a concealed carry permit holder who fired back at the attacker.
The carjacking attack occurred before 1:30 am on Monday in the 5500 block of West Crystal Street, WGN-TV reported, as cited by Breitbart News.
As the suspect showed up, demanded the 45-year-old victim’s car, and started shooting at him, the concealed carrier immediately shot back and hit the would-be carjacker in the chest.
The suspect was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, while the concealed carry permit holder remained unhurt during the carjacking attempt.
Chicago Police Department officers later recovered the carjacker’s gun from the crime scene.
The self-defense shooting incident during the carjacking attempt in question early Monday morning occurred against the backdrop of another wave of shooting attacks in Chicago over the weekend.
At least 34 people got shot in Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s city between Friday afternoon and Monday morning, and three died due to their gunshot wounds.
One of the three fatal shoots occurred at about 11:45 pm on Saturday, “in the 600-block of West 89th Street,” as per the report of the Chicago PD.
A man in his early 20s got shot numerous times “in the face, neck, and chest” while standing outside. He was taken to hospital but died there.
In another fatal Chicago weekend shooting, a 21-year-old was gunned down at about 12:40 am on Sunday “in the 4700 block of South Union Avenue.”
The victim was also standing outside when somebody started firing at him and killed him.
Another fatal shooting happened at about 6 pm on Friday, “in the 3300 block of West Flournoy Street,” in a drive-by attack outside a local home. A 33-year-old man died in hospital after getting hit multiple times.
In July alone, Chicago saw 345 shootings, according to police data cited by The Chicago Sun-Times.
The newspaper’s database also shows that 425 people have been killed in Chicago since January 1, 2022.
