(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – Republican US Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona blasted as “absolutely tyrannical” a promise President Joe Biden made on Thanksgiving Day to ban what he called “assault weapons.”
Biden’s vow to ban semi-automatic rifles came during a Thanksgiving visit to the fire department on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.
A report had asked the president about the shooting in a Walmart store in Chesapeake, Virginia, in which a manager killed six employees before killing himself.
“I’m sick and tired of these shootings. We should have much stricter gun laws,” Biden declared.
“The idea we still allow semi-automatic weapons to be purchased is sick. It’s just sick. It has no, no social redeeming value. Zero. None. Not a single, solitary rationale for it except profit for the gun manufacturers. I’m going to try to get rid of assault weapons,” he elaborated.
Biden added he would attempt to pass a ban on “assault weapons” through the lame-duck final session of the current Congress before the new Congress with the GOP House majority convened in January.
Rep. Andy Biggs told Newsmax that the Democrat president had launched a renewed attack on Americans’ Second Amendment rights.
“How do you turn Thanksgiving holiday into an attack on the Second Amendment? Well, this … administration can do that at any time. This is one of the big goals,” the Arizona Republican stated.
“I was pretty upset that they would trying to distract from this very special day to do an attack on our rights, but that’s par for the course for the Biden administration,” he added.
Biggs cited a recent case in which a woman in Chicago used a concealed-carry firearm to fight off a gang of four criminals who a carjacking at gunpoint.
He argued that more lives are saved when law-abiding citizens have firearms to defend themselves.
“The point is she saved her life, possibly the lives of others because she had a gun. People have to admit that you are able to save your lives when you are armed yourselves, and so, that’s really important,” the GOP congressman said.
He pointed out Biden didn’t understand what was a semi-automatic gun, adding these made up about 50% of firearms in the US.
“This notion that we’re going to go ahead and take away what we believe to be a God-given, inherent, right in this constitutional republic because Joe Biden doesn’t know the difference between an automatic weapon, a semi-automatic, what he likes to call … ‘assault weapons,’ that’s just absolutely tyrannical in its way,” Biggs said.
“I think coming down to the US Supreme Court, at least with this current makeup — Justice Clarence Thomas did say that this applies to weapons that were not in production at the time of the writing of the Second Amendment, just like social media is not in the First Amendment; however, is still protected,” the Arizona Republican noted.
