Here’s Why Nikki Haley Could Be Huge in ’24

(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina Governor and US Ambassador to the United Nations, could make all the difference in a Donald Trump – Ron DeSantis faceoff for the 2024 GOP nomination, a new poll shows.

Former President Donald Trump announced his 2024 candidacy in November. Neither DeSantis nor Haley have made their presidential bids official though reports indicate that Haley might be about to do so any day now.

According to a new public opinion poll by Yahoo News and YouGov, Florida’s governor would defeat Trump for the Republican nomination in a head-to-head matchup, Newsmax reported.

DeSantis enjoys the support of 45% of GOP voters vs. 41% for the former president, while 11% of the respondents said they weren’t sure whom to pick.

However, if Nikki Haley is added “to the mix,” Trump would get 38%, DeSantis would be second with 35%, and Haley would be third with 11%. In that case, 15% would be uncertain whom to support.

Even though DeSantis has not mentioned his potential 2024 presidential ambitions, he “has been making clear moves” in that regard, the report notes.

Those seem to have caught former President Trump’s attention because he has given the Florida governor nicknames such as “Ron DeSanctimonious.”

Trump has also been somewhat critical of Nikki Haley, who served as his UN Ambassador from 2017-2018, by calling her “disloyal.” However, he has also made encouraging comments about her.

“Nikki has to follow her heart, not her honor. She should definitely run!” Trump said last week.

In 2021, Haley promised she would never run if her former boss sought the 2024 Republican nomination. However, she has recently hinted she had changed her mind and wouldn’t do good on that promise.

“The poll shows most Republican, and Republican-leaning voters want someone other than Trump and that Haley is the strongest of the field,” the report noted.

According to the poll findings, if the 2024 presidential election were held today, Democrat President Joe Biden would beat Trump 47% to 41%. However, DeSantis would defeat Biden 44% to 43%.

It is noted that at least five candidates would try to challenge Trump and that such a vote split would hurt DeSantis and help the former president.

The Yahoo News and YouGov poll was performed among 1,585 American voters through online interviews between February 2 and February 6.

They were chosen from an opt-in panel representative of all US adults. The poll has a margin of error of 2.8 percentage points.
