(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – A heroic rescue in which an adult man saved two kids from drowning in a state park still ended tragically as the children’s savior lost his life.
According to a report by The New York Post, 37-year-old Marvin Alexan Fernandez Chicas drowned after saving the lives of two kids who were trying to swim in a creek in a Pennsylvania forest.
The deadly incident occurred at Nockamixon State Park.
Chicas’ death by drowning was announced by the local authorities of Bucks County and the local Coroner’s Office.
Bucks County in Southeast Pennsylvania has about 650,000 people and is the state’s fourth most populous.
Chicas reportedly saw that the two kids were struggling in the waters of Tohickon Creek and immediately came to their rescue.
He dove into the creek and brought both children to the shore. However, at that point, he “disappeared in the water,” according to the local authorities.
After Chicas went missing, a wide-ranging search effort involving nearly a dozen divers was organized, informed Haycock Township Fire Chief Harry Grim, as cited by WFMZ.
The body of the deceased hero was found about two hours after he perished.
In the wake of the fatal incident, the authorities have banned people from swimming in the creek and in Lake Nockamixon, which, at 1,450 acres, is the largest lake in Bucks County.
The Haycock Township fire chief warned that swimmers often deluded themselves, thinking certain parts of creeks and lakes would be shallow when in fact, they could be “very deep along the shore.”
“Unfortunately, people don’t follow the rules, and the sad reality is it’s not a smooth, gradual slope under the water, and they step off into a deep area, they take a gulp of water, and they die, unfortunately. It shouldn’t happen, but it does,” Grim said.
“Don’t swim in Lake Nockamixon. It’s zero visibility this time of year. Divers at 10 feet cannot see their own hands in front of their face,” he warned further.
