(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – In a much-needed effort to crack down on seemingly rampant antisemitism at Columbia University, House Republicans have dropped the hammer on its leadership by issuing a subpoena to further its investigation.
The chairwoman of the House Education and Workforce Committee, Virginia Foxx (R-NC), issued a subpoena to Katrina Armstrong, the interim president of Columbia University, on Wednesday.
This action was taken to obtain information regarding the university’s approach to dealing with antisemitism on campus—a matter that, according to Foxx, was inadequately handled by Armstrong’s predecessor, National Review reports.
The issuance of the subpoena occurred just two days following the committee’s release of a report indicating that Columbia University had not taken disciplinary action against student activists who forcibly entered and occupied a campus building.
Despite the university administration’s commitment to expel those involved, 18 of the 22 students apprehended inside Hamilton Hall maintain their good standing at the university.
Moreover, the disciplinary proceedings for 27 students arrested outside the building have been concluded without further consequences.
“Columbia should be a partner in our efforts to ensure Jewish students have a safe learning environment on its campus, but instead, university administrators have slow rolled the investigation, repeatedly failing to turn over necessary documents,” Foxx stated.
“The information we have obtained points to a continued pattern of negligence towards antisemitism and a refusal to stand up to the radical students and faculty responsible for it. The goal of this investigation has always been to protect Jewish students and faculty, and if compulsory measures are necessary to obtain the documents the Committee requires, so be it,” the GOP lawmaker elaborated.
Foxx has directed Armstrong to provide various documents by September 4, including communications related to antisemitism on campus since October 7, details about the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment,” minutes from board of trustees meetings, and all records concerning alleged antisemitic incidents and breaches of the university’s code of conduct since that date.
According to Foxx, Columbia has previously failed to provide these documents promptly.
With the recent resignation of Minouche Shafik, Armstrong assumed the role of interim president at Columbia.
Foxx expressed hope in her letter to Armstrong that the new leadership would respond more effectively to the committee’s ongoing requests.
She also emphasized the necessity for the university to preserve all relevant records and materials associated with former President Shafik in relation to the committee’s inquiries.
