U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), alongside state law enforcement, conducted a sweeping operation aimed at tackling illegal immigration.
This bold initiative signals a significant shift in Florida’s approach toward enforcing immigration laws.
A four-day operation led by ICE and state law enforcement resulted in the apprehension of nearly 800 immigrants, marking one of the most substantial enforcement efforts in Florida’s history.
The operation, dubbed “Operation Tidal Wave,” targeted undocumented individuals with final deportation orders, successfully arresting over 275 individuals with such legal proceedings pending.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis praised the operation as a “successful example of collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies” to combat illegal immigration.
The operation’s success is attributed to the formal 287(g) agreement with state law enforcement, a strategic collaboration allowing local authorities to assist in federal immigration operations.
Bringing together U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and all 67 Florida county sheriffs, the operation showed an unprecedented level of cooperation.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem emphasized the operation’s focus on arresting and deporting criminal illegal aliens.
This collaboration reflects the Trump administration’s broader efforts to enlist local authorities in immigration enforcement.
Such initiatives aim to accelerate deportations nationwide to meet campaign promises.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons labeled this operation “a large-scale, cooperative effort involving federal and local agencies,” underscoring its significance in the ongoing effort to address illegal immigration.
The Florida operation is part of larger plans to enforce immigration laws across the country.
Notable arrests during the operation included members of the notorious MS-13 gang, convicted criminals, and individuals evading charges under international law.
For instance, Rafael Juarez Cabrera, an alleged MS-13 gang member, was apprehended, along with Savva Klishchevskii, a Russian with an Interpol Red Notice for manslaughter.
The operation also identified two judges arrested for allegedly obstructing justice by assisting individuals to evade ICE, accentuating the operation’s extensive scope.
“This is a warning to all criminal illegal aliens: We’re coming for you, @DHSgov, @ICEgov, and our state partners will hunt you down, arrest and deport you. That’s a promise,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X.
The operational success of this immigration crackdown reflects the government’s commitment to upholding the nation’s immigration laws.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, reiterating this point, stated, “Florida will ensure its laws are followed, and when it comes to immigration – the days of inaction are over.”
