Investigation of Democrat GROWS!

( – In a growing embarrassment for the Democrats, the House Ethics Committee has escalated its investigation of Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL), focusing now on additional allegations that she may have misappropriated office funds and breached campaign finance laws.

Initially, the inquiry commenced in December when concerns arose regarding whether the congresswoman might have contravened campaign finance regulations related to her 2022 special election and subsequent re-election campaigns, The Hill reports.

The allegations also extended to potential failures in disclosing requisite information on mandatory House filings and the possible acceptance of volunteer services for official duties from an individual not formally affiliated with her congressional staff.

Tuesday’s declaration by the committee signaled a broadening of the investigative scope to encompass further allegations that Representative Cherfilus-McCormick might have violated ethical standards.

Specifically, the allegations now include potential misconduct related to funding requests for community projects, the misuse of official resources for campaign objectives, and additional infractions of campaign finance laws during her 2024 re-election campaign, as outlined by the committee in a press statement.

The committee refrained from providing detailed comments on these allegations, adhering to its usual protocol of withholding specific details of such claims against members until the conclusion of its investigations.

Cherfilus-McCormick’s office chose not to comment on the specifics of the allegations either.

In a statement to The Hill, a spokesperson for Cherfilus-McCormick emphasized that the expansion of the inquiry does not inherently suggest any wrongdoing or reflect any preliminary conclusions by the Committee.

The spokesperson reiterated the congresswoman’s commitment to treating the matter with utmost seriousness and her intention to fully cooperate with the House Ethics Committee and its investigative subcommittee in addressing the allegations raised.

Representative Cherfilus-McCormick entered the House in 2022, succeeding the late Representative Alcee Hastings (D-FL), following her victory in a special election for the southern Florida district. She secured a full term in the subsequent election later that year.
