(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – The January 6 Select Committee of the US House of Representatives has recommended that the Biden administration’s Justice Department file criminal charges against former President Donald Trump and some of his associates.
This is the first time in American history that a president or former president has been referred to the Department of Justice for prosecution and many American patriots are outraged.
On Monday, the committee established by Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent four criminal referrals on Trump to the Biden administration’s Justice Department.
The panel of seven Democrats, and two anti-Trump Republicans, said it had gathered sufficient evidence the then-US president and his associates tried on January 6, 2021, to overturn the results from the 2020 election unlawfully.
The two GOP lawmakers are Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, whom Trump has described as “RINOs” (“Republicans in Name Only”).
According to the January 6 committee, it has put together a “roadmap to justice,” AP reported, as cited by Newsmax.
The report calls the panel’s investigation into the 1/6/2021 events at the US Capitol “one of the most exhaustive and aggressive congressional probes in memory.”
The committee informed the DOJ it had found evidence Trump had violated four criminal statutes before and on January 6, 2021, which is why the former president should face prosecution.
The four charges in question are “conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstruction of an official proceeding of Congress, conspiracy to make a false statement, and insurrection.”
As the Justice Department would decide whether to press charges against Trump and his associates, the 1/6 committee’s referral is “mostly symbolic.” Still, it presents a “decisive end” to the investigation, the report notes.
“We have every confidence that the work of this committee will help provide a roadmap to justice,” declared the committee chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), on Monday.
He insisted that Trump “broke the faith” in the democracy of Americans who voted in November 2020.
“He lost the 2020 election and knew it. But he chose to try to stay in office through a multi-part scheme to overturn the results and block the transfer of power,” Thompson argued.
In her address, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, the committee’s vice chairwoman, said every president in US history had defended the peaceful transfer of power after elections – “except” for Trump.
The 1/6 panel approved its final report in a 9-0 vote. It is expected to release the document in full on Wednesday.
The select committee will be dissolved when the new Republican-led House convenes on January 3.
Since its launch in July 2021, Pelosi’s committee collected over 1 million documents, conducted over 1,000 interviews, and held ten public hearings.
