(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – In a sheer outrage, reports have exposed radical Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for employing an illegal immigrant as one of her most senior staffers.

Diego de la Vega, who served as the Deputy Communication Director for Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign, recently left for Colombia after living in the U.S. illegally for nearly two decades.

His employment has placed the progressive congresswoman under scrutiny for hiring someone who overstayed their visa since 2001.

Originally from Ecuador, de la Vega entered the U.S. on a visitor’s visa in 2001, which he overstayed.

His illegal status is now being questioned, along with whether he was legally allowed to be on the congresswoman’s payroll, Fox News reports.

Ocasio-Cortez’s hiring of de la Vega raises questions about a double standard in the handling of illegal immigration.

While DACA recipients are legally barred from working in paid congressional roles, de la Vega worked in the heart of U.S. politics despite his status.

Before joining AOC’s team, he had engaged with immigrant rights groups and even served as a communications director for another Democrat, Robert Rodriguez.

In a twist that may surprise some, de la Vega expressed his disappointment with former President Biden for not advancing immigration reform, despite controlling the House, Senate, and White House.

“Protections are going away, regardless of who is in the White House. The strategy hasn’t adapted to the modern era. Biden had a trifecta — the House, Senate and White House, but dropped the ball,” de la Vega said, cited by The New York Post.

From his perspective, even with bipartisan control, progress in achieving lasting reform has been unacceptably slow.

Diego emphasized honesty during his tenure with Ocasio-Cortez, claiming their communication with voters was straightforward.

He argued that they never misled their New York constituents, a narrative that may contradict the questionable legality of his employment.

Whether this aligns with Ocasio-Cortez’s transparency remains debatable.

“It’s bittersweet. I hadn’t left the country in 23 years — from age seven to age 30. Now, I can’t go back to the U.S. It feels like exile. It’s a very permanent move. But my wife and I are confident we made the right decision. And, after some time, it’s been a real pleasure to be here,” Diego de la Vega said.

As he settles into his new life in Colombia, de la Vega seems at peace with his decision, finding solace despite having lived in fear of deportation in the U.S.

His story casts a spotlight on the complexities of U.S. immigration policy and the need for reform that restores dignity and lawfulness to the process.
