(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – Former President Donald Trump slammed his successor Joe Biden over the prisoner swap with Putin’s Russia in which WNBA player Brittney Griner was exchanged for infamous arms dealer Viktor Bout.
Two-time Olympic basketball champion Griner was arrested at a Moscow airport in February for carrying cartridges with hashish oil and was sentenced to 9 years in prison for drug trafficking.
Viktor Bout, also known as the Merchant of Death, has been serving a 25-year sentence in the United States for international arms smuggling.
Most probably acting as a “freelancer” working for Russian military intelligence GRU, he has supplied Soviet- and Russia-made arms to dozens of terrorist organizations and Third World dictatorships.
Bout’s clients include the Taliban in Afghanistan, Communist rebels FARC in Colombia, Libya’s late dictator Muammar Gaddafi, and regimes in Angola, DR Congo, and other African countries.
There have been reports for months that the Biden administration is negotiating an exchange with Russia. However, they claimed that the Merchant of Death would be swapped for Griner with former US Marine Paul Whelan, who Moscow imprisons on espionage charges.
Former President Donald Trump views the Bout-for-Griner deal struck by Biden with Putin’s Russia as “stupid” and “unpatriotic embarrassment,” as revealed by his comments on Truth Social.
He pointed out that Biden had exchanged “one of the biggest arms dealers anywhere in the world” for Griner, who “openly” hates her nation, a reference to the basketball player’s “woke” comments in the past.
“What kind of a deal is it to swap Brittney Griner, a basketball player who openly hates our Country, for the man known as ‘The Merchant of Death,’ who is one of the biggest arms dealers anywhere in the World, and responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and horrific injuries,” Trump wondered in his post.
The former president also slammed Biden for failing to secure the release of Paul Whelan. The former US Marine is serving a 16-year sentence in Russia after he was arrested in 2018 for “espionage.”
“Why wasn’t former Marine Paul Whelan included in this totally one-sided transaction? He would have been let out for the asking,” Trump asked.
“What a ‘stupid’ and unpatriotic embarrassment for the USA!!!” POTUS 45 concluded.
After President Joe Biden announced the prisoner swap, Whelan sent a statement to CNN where he laid out his frustration.
“I am greatly disappointed that more has not been done to secure my release, especially as the four-year anniversary of my arrest is coming up. I was arrested for a crime that never occurred. I don’t understand why I’m still sitting here,” the former US Marine said.
