In Springfield, Ohio, a resident was on his way to a job orientation when he called 911, reporting that he had seen four Haitian migrants capturing geese near a city park, The New York Post reports.
This incident, captured in a recording obtained by the Federalist, lends credibility to online assertions that some migrants have been consuming local wildlife.
The controversy reached a wider audience when former President Donald Trump publicly stated that migrants in Springfield were consuming dogs, although local authorities and officials have refuted claims of pets being targeted for food.
However, there have been previous accusations from residents about ducks and other birds being consumed.
The caller detailed his sighting to the dispatcher, noting, “I’m sitting here, I’m riding on the trail, I’m going to my orientation for my job today, and I see a group of Haitian people, there was about four of them, they all had geese in their hand.”
He described the group as two men and two women, who fled the scene in a gray Toyota Tacoma truck, and he provided part of their license plate.
Springfield, a small city with a population of 60,000, located about 45 minutes from Columbus, has experienced significant cultural tensions due to the influx of approximately 20,000 Haitian immigrants over the past four years.
This migration has strained local resources, prompting city leaders to request federal aid from U.S. Senators Tim Scott and Sherrod Brown.
In response to the growing concerns, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine dispatched state troopers to assist local law enforcement and allocated $2.5 million to support the overwhelmed health system in Springfield.
The narrative of migrants treating local animals as a source of food has captured widespread attention, fueled by high-profile figures like Elon Musk and Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance.
While the authenticity of these claims varies, with some being debunked as hoaxes, they have nonetheless sparked significant public interest and controversy.
At a Springfield City Commission meeting, residents shared distressing encounters with migrants, ranging from public disturbances to allegations of consuming local wildlife.
