On February 25, 2025, the 21 employees officially tendered their resignation.
They cited their unwillingness to dismantle public services as mandated by the United States Digital Service.
These staffers accused the project of employing political ideologues lacking the necessary skills, and refused to compromise essential government systems or jeopardize sensitive data.
Since its inception during the Obama administration, the United States Digital Service aimed to enhance government services and technology procurement.
However, under Musk’s direction, DOGE diverged from its original blueprint laid out during Trump’s campaign.
Resignations highlighted interviews post-Trump’s inauguration, questioning their credentials and loyalties, adding fuel to the fire of dissatisfaction.
“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations,” the staffers asserted.
They added, “It has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments.”
The resignations come amid lawsuits challenging efforts to shrink the federal workforce further.

Skepticism surrounds Musk’s attempts to retain technological talent while executing large-scale layoffs.

Mass layoffs and Musk’s subsequent comments have stirred controversy, hinting at political motives behind the resignations.
“More fake news from Associated Propaganda. These were Dem political holdovers who refused to return to the office. They would have been fired had they not resigned,” Musk stated.
