NEWS ALERT: US Congresswoman Assaulted at Her DC Home

( – NEWS ALERT: United States Representative Angie Craig, a Minnesota Democrat, was attacked at her Washington, DC, home today.

Specifically, at 7:15 a.m. this morning, Rep. Craig was attacked in the elevator of her apartment building in Washington, D.C.

A statement from her office reports that the Congresswoman was able to defend herself and suffered only bruises but is otherwise physically unharmed.

The assailant fled the scene after Rep. Craig called 9-1-1. The incident is not believed to be politically motivated.

Rep. Craig expressed gratitude towards the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for their rapid response and has requested privacy during this time.

According to a report from Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect initially appeared in the apartment building lobby, following Rep. Craig into the elevator before launching the attack. The suspect began doing pushups before punching Rep. Craig in the chin and grabbing her neck.

Rep. Craig is not the only member of Congress who has recently fallen victim to violent crime.

In December 2021, Democratic Pennsylvania Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon was carjacked in South Philadelphia, and the suspects were later arrested after police recovered the cars.

In January 2022, Democratic Missouri Rep. Cori Bush’s car was hit by gunfire, although she was not in the vehicle at the time.
