Nikki Haley Says She Can Stop School Shootings

( – 2024 Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has reacted to the Nashville school shooting by calling for stationing police officers in every school while rejecting more gun control measures.

Three nine-year-old children and three adult employees were killed on Monday when 28-year-old Audrey Hale, a woman who identified as a transgender man, attacked Covenant Presbyterian School in Nashville.

The shooter’s motives are unclear, but she was a former student of the private Christian school.

According to Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron, Hale used a side entrance to enter the school building containing 200 students. She was carrying a handgun and two rifles and was shot and killed by police officers.

“While we want to lift up those families in prayer, people are going to say, ‘But what are we going to do about it?'” Haley stated during a town hall-type meeting in Dover, New Hampshire.

“There are answers on what to do about it. We have to decide as a country that we’re going to do something about it,” she continued, as cited by The National Review.

Haley, a former governor of South Carolina, argued that schools should have a single entry point.

She also insisted every school should have a police officer stationed on its campus “all the time” and that metal detectors should be utilized more since they were already “present everywhere kids go.”

“You’re going to hear everybody want to talk about gun control,” the GOP presidential runner cautioned.

“My thing is, I don’t want to take away your ability to protect yourself until they do those things that protect those kids and we need to make sure that happens in every school because it’s happened too often and we need to make sure that stops,” Haley elaborated.

A member asked of the audience asked her about her plans for tackling the mental health crisis in America if she were elected.

The high-profile Republican declared that mental health experts were also needed in every single school in the US.

“America has failed when it comes to mental health. They refuse to acknowledge it for what it is,” she said.

Haley said people on the street with mental health issues shouldn’t go to jail but should be helped by speaking with a mental health professional to “get the help that they need.”

“When we start treating mental health like the cancers we treat, all of a sudden you’re going to find we have you’re gonna find we have a healthy American population,” stated the former US ambassador to the UN.
