(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – In state government moves that might as well be considered excessive, with the 2024 General Election approaching, tensions are high in Washington and Oregon, prompting both states to mobilize the National Guard.
There have been cases of ballot box arsons in Portland and Vancouver, Washington, but it remains unclear how this mobilization will ensure a safe and peaceful election process for all Americans.
Washington Governor Jay Inslee activated the National Guard in response to recent arson attacks on ballot boxes in Portland and Vancouver, Washington.
By teaming up with local law enforcement and the State Patrol, the Guard aims to deter violence and ensure voter safety. The number of guardsmen to be deployed remains undecided.
Oregon follows suit, with its National Guard on standby to maintain election integrity.
Governor Tina Kotek’s administration is coordinating efforts with local, state, and federal agencies, highlighting their commitment to protecting voters.
“The governor’s office is closely monitoring and coordinating with local, state and federal agencies to ensure Oregon voters can safely cast their ballot,” said Gov. Tina Kotek, cited by KTVZ.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has issued warnings about potential threats to election infrastructure and political violence leading up to the election.
These warnings are taken seriously as Portland prepares for potential unrest, with increased police presence planned for election day.
Portland’s Mayor Ted Wheeler acknowledged current tensions surrounding the election but expressed hope for peaceful expression.
“We all deeply believe in our community’s right and ability to exercise free speech, and I believe the vast majority of Portlanders want to come together to do so peacefully,” Wheeler stated.
Both Washington and Oregon have taken preemptive steps to prevent disruptions, extending the National Guard’s deployment from Monday through Thursday night.
The mobilization aims to reassure the public that the election will proceed without disturbance, reflecting both states’ priority on maintaining law and order.
“This is a purely precautionary measure taken in response to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s nationwide warnings,” stated Governor Inslee’s office.
Washington’s National Guard activation underscores Inslee’s proactive stance to maintain election safety and infrastructure protection.
Efforts to fortify the electoral process speak to a larger national concern over potential unrest.
In 2020, Oregon also deployed the National Guard for election security, a trend that has seen increased use of the Guard for cybersecurity threats.
