Costco is facing a crucial recall situation involving its Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs under the Kirkland brand by Handsome Brook Farms.
These eggs, numbering over 10,000 cartons, pose a potential salmonella contamination risk, which has prompted a swift response to ensure public safety.
Products distributed to Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee fall under this recall.
The impacted cartons of eggs are specifically identified by the Julian code 327 and have a “Use By” date set for January 5, 2025.
Salmonella is a known threat, capable of causing severe infections, especially in vulnerable groups like young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported yet, which aligns with the proactive measures taken by Handsome Brook Farms and Costco.
Consumers are urged to return the affected products to Costco for a refund or dispose of them as a precaution.
“Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the FDA declared in a statement.
