(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – In a pathetic attempt to defend the indefensible, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has tried to counter criticisms against the military record of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democrats’ vice-presidential candidate.
See the video of Pelosi’s remarks in the tweet below!
Pelosi’s remarks came as Walz’s 24-year tenure in the Army National Guard faced sharp criticism from Republican circles, focusing on the accuracy of his representations regarding his service, The Hill reports.
“First of all, it’s a sign of the bankruptcy of their ideas. They don’t have anything to say, so they make up things,” the former House speaker said in a televised discussion on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki.”
“So first of all, he was in the National Guard 20 years, he thought he’d stay 20 years. But then 9/11 happened, so he signed up for four more years. He retired from that to run for Congress months before his unit was assigned to being deployed. So it was after he left, so they’re just trying to confuse things,” Pelosi elaborated.
Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance (R-Ohio) was particularly vocal, accusing Walz of embellishing his military experience and of abandoning his unit before its deployment to Iraq, thereby avoiding service in a war zone.
Vance, a Marine Corps veteran himself, remarked, “When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq, you know what he did? He dropped out of the Army and allowed his unit to go without him.”
Despite Vance’s service in Iraq, he did not engage in combat.
Pelosi praised Walz’s subsequent congressional tenure.
“[Walz] came to Congress and was respected by our colleagues, elected to be the top Democrat on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, where he, and working with Chet Edwards on the Appropriations Committee and on the Authorizing Committee … made historic advances for veterans, meeting their needs, more than had been done since the GI Bill during World War II,” she declared.
Democrats have rebutted Vance’s allegations, emphasizing that Walz left the military to pursue a political career in May 2005, several months before any deployment orders were issued to his unit in August.
A subordinate of Walz corroborated this timeline in a discussion with NewsNation’s Joe Khalil, noting that while Walz anticipated potential deployment, no official orders had been issued when he retired.
Other Republicans, like Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), chair of the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee, also accused Walz of overstating his service achievements.
Amidst these controversies, the Harris-Walz campaign responded, appreciating Vance’s service but defending Walz’s record.
