POLL: Trump Is the Candidate to Beat

Donald Trump

(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – Former US President Donald Trump has a comfortable lead over his potential primary opponents for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, according to a new national survey results.

Trump polled 15 points higher than his likely closest competitor, Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis, the public opinion poll by Morning Consult and Politico shows, as cited by Breitbart News.

While his popularity seems to be growing, and he just got reelected in a landslide, DeSantis has not even hinted he may run for president in 2024. Trump announced his new candidacy in an hour-long speech on November 15.

The 45th president of the United States was favored by 45% of the registered voters polled, while Florida’s governor remained second with 30% support.

The other possible bidders for the 2024 Republican nomination polled in the single digits.

Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence, got the support of 7% of the respondents.

Republican US Senator of Texas, Ted Cruz, came in fourth with 3% support.

Three others – outgoing Wyoming US Rep. Liz Cheney, 2012 presidential candidate Sen. Mitt Romney, and former US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley – all polled at 2%.

The Politico and Morning Consult poll found the overwhelming majority of Americans – or 72% – believe the nation is “heading in the wrong direction.”

At the same time, only 42% view at least partly positively President Joe Biden’s job performance: 24% “somewhat approve,” while 18% “strongly approve.”

Conversely, 55% of the respondents said they disapprove of the job the 80-year-old Democrat has done in the White House, including 39% who “strong disapprove.”

The Politico poll surveyed 2,018 registered voters, including 849 Republicans, from November 18-20, with a margin of error of two percentage points.

Earlier this week, another 2024 presidential primary survey by Emerson College Polling found Trump has a 30-point lead over DeSantis among registered GOP voters.

The former president scored 55.1% support, while DeSantis polled at 24.8%, with no other potential Republican bidder polling in the double digits.

“Our country was great. Our country’s not great anymore; our country’s a laughing stock right now. But our country can be greater than it ever was before by a lot,” Trump stated as he announced his presidential candidacy earlier this month.

“If our movement remains united and confident, then we will shatter the forces of tyranny, and we will unleash the glories of liberty for ourselves and for our children and for generations yet to come. America’s Golden Age is just ahead,” POTUS 45 promised.
