(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – President Donald Trump overwhelmingly dominates his potential competitors for the 2024 presidential nomination of the Republican Party, the results from a straw poll during the Conservative Political Action Conference held over the weekend have shown.
Almost every one of the polled attendees of the CPAC in Dallas, Texas, expressed job approval for Trump.
At the same time, the 45th President of the United States enjoyed the support of 69% of the participants in the latest CPAC straw poll, Breitbart News reported.
Florida’s GOP Governor, Ron DeSantis, considered the most viable competitor to Trump, remained a distant second, with only 24%.
Texas US Senator Ted Cruz came in third with 2%, while four other potential candidates got 1% each: ex-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, ex-South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, South Dakota’s Governor Kristi Noem, and Kentucky US Senator Rand Paul.
Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence remained 10th with only 0.3% of the straw poll votes.
With the new result, Trump has increased his lead over DeSantis compared with the last CPAC, which was held on the latter’s home turf in Florida back in February. POTUS 45 is now 45 points ahead of DeSantis, up from 31 points before (59% to 28%).
“Yep, President Trump increases his job approval to an astronomical 99% in CPAC Straw Poll and blows away the potential 2024 field with 69% of the vote, up from 59% from February CPAC,” Jim McLaughlin, the pollster who performed the straw poll, said on social media after he announced the results onstage several hours before Trump’s address to the conference.
The straw poll also asked the CPAC attendees who they would support if Trump doesn’t participate in the race for the GOP nomination.
In that scenario, DeSantis got the support of 65%. The second place was for Donald Trump Jr. with 8%, US Senator from Texas Ted Cruz got 6%, and former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo got 5%.
The respondents were also asked who they think will be the 2024 presidential nominee of the Democratic Party.
The highest number – 37% – predicted it would be California Governor Gavin Newsom, 16% chose Michelle Obama, only 8% forecasted it would be President Joe Biden, and another 8% said it would be Hillary Clinton. Biden’s Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg got 5%, and Vice President Kamala Harris – 4%.
