(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – The brutal murder of 26-year-old American YouTuber Elliot Eastman in the Philippines has sent shockwaves through the expat community.
Eastman’s murder serves as a reminder of the risks Americans face abroad, especially in regions known for crime and terrorist activity.
Eastman was violently taken from his home in Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte, on October 17 by armed criminals disguising themselves as police officers.
The young content creator, who had been living in the Philippines for 18 months and recently married a local woman, was shot for resisting his captors.
Lieutenant Colonel Ramoncelio Sawan of the Philippine National Police revealed the grim details of Eastman’s final moments.
“Sometime late October, during our investigation, we encountered one witness who claimed Eastman had been shot during the abduction,” Sawan said.
“On their way to escape by sea, the abductors noticed that Elliot Eastman was already dead. They threw his body into the water,” he added.
Eastman seemingly predicted his death one month before it happened when he said, “As long as I’m here, my life is still at risk, you know.”
“That’s the reality, especially the area that I’m in. . . . It’s not even just the Philippines. This area that I’m in is like the most dangerous area in the country so it’s literally like the red zone,” he continued.
The region where he lived is infamous for its rampant crime and the presence of extremist groups like the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Abu Sayyaf.
Despite recent peace efforts, the area keeps witnessing clashes and widespread poverty, creating a breeding ground for criminal activity targeting foreigners thought to be wealthy.
The Philippine authorities have arrested three suspects and charged six individuals with abduction.
The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines stated, “The Department of State has no greater priority than the welfare and safety of U.S. citizens abroad. We stand ready to provide assistance to U.S. citizens in need and to their families.”
Elliot Eastman, 26, reportedly died on the night of his abduction from his home in the poverty-stricken town of Sibuco in Zamboanga del Norte on October 17.
