(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – Over a dozen pro-life groups have called on America’s biggest pharmacy chains – CVS and Walgreens – to give up their decision to sell abortion-inducing drugs after a policy change by the Biden administration.
In their letters to CVS Health and Walgreens Boots Alliance, the Family Research Council and thirteen other pro-life groups urged the pharmacy chains to refuse to sell the pills causing chemical abortions, also known as medication abortions, Breitbart News reported.
The anti-abortion organizations’ move comes after several weeks ago, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) altered its regulations to allow retail pharmacies to sell mifepristone, the leading abortion pill.
Even as women seeking medication abortions would still need a prescription, the FDA eliminated its previous requirement that mifepristone is taken in the presence of a qualified medic.
The FDA changes came several months after, in June 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling, which had legalized abortion, and allowed state-level abortion bans.
After the Biden administration’s new abortion pill rules, the CVS and Walgreens management, including CEOs Karen Lynch and Rosalind Brewer, confirmed their pharmacy chains would sell the abortion pill in places where that was not against state laws.
In their letter, the 14 pro-life organizations warned the managers not to turn their “pharmacies into abortion facilities,” which could “present many potential legal concerns” for the companies.
“Chemical abortion drugs are not just another pill. Selling these drugs would transform these centers of healing into abortion facilities that kill children in their mother’s wombs,” the anti-abortionist groups wrote.
They warned customers would be doing business with de facto “abortion facilities” if the mifepristone sales got launched.
“Such a move directly threatens the conscience rights of all pharmacy employees, most particularly the pharmacists who will be placed on the front lines of committing abortions, but certainly other employees as well,” the 14 organizations declared.
They also noted that CVS and Walgreens stores would now be targeted by “public education and activism” campaigns currently happening outside Planned Parenthood and other abortion business.
“To the best of our knowledge, no mainstream corporation or business has ever willingly associated itself with providing abortions in any form. We urge you to make your pharmacy a pharmacy once again—not an abortion business. We urge you to cease selling the chemical abortion regimen,” the pro-life groups said.
Their letter noted that medication abortions were “four times as likely as surgical abortions to result in medical complications and trauma for the mother.”
The anti-abortion organizations also criticized the Food and Drugs Administration for its recent rules change, which has “weakened” the “health and safety protocols” for chemical abortions.
“As more and more health professionals continue to choose ideology over health and safety, it is becoming harder to assume that proper screenings to date the pregnancy to see if it is 10 weeks or fewer, or to ensure that the pregnancy is not ectopic, are completed,” the letter declared.
Besides the Family Research Council, it was also signed by March for Life, The Heritage Foundation, Catholic Vote, Student for Life Action/Students for Life of America, Family Policy Alliance, Live Action, Susan B. Anthony Pro-life America, National Right to Life Committee, Ethics and Public Policy Foundation, American Family Association, Concerned Women for America, Americans United for Life, Faith & Freedom Coalition.
