With a strong backing of 90% among Republicans, this sentiment is crucial for shaping campaign strategies.
Half of Americans, including 42% of Democrats, support mass deportations of illegal immigrants.
This significant backing underscores a rising demand among voters for tougher immigration measures.
Notably, 39% of Americans “strongly” support deportation policies, emphasizing the critical influence of this issue on voting behavior.
The Ipsos poll highlights concerns that top the list for Americans, including increased crime, taxpayer costs, and national security risks due to illegal immigration.
A majority, 68%, believe it causes significant community problems.
At the same time, 64% think immigrants receive excess welfare benefits, and 56% link illegal immigration to crime rates, Breitbart News reports.
Interestingly, some support exists for expanding legal immigration pathways; 58% favor this approach, and 46% support protecting legitimate asylum seekers.
Nonetheless, the predominant concern remains illegal immigration, driving discussions on election strategies.
“Half of Americans — including 42% of Democrats — say they’d support mass deportations of undocumented immigrants, according to a new Axios Vibes survey by The Harris Poll,” pro-left news site Axios reports.
The survey involved 6,251 U.S. adults, featuring a margin of error of +/- 1.5 percentage points.
Another critical factor is the 44% of Americans who trust Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris on immigration.
A third prioritize securing the U.S.-Mexico border, highlighting the ongoing significance of border security in political discourse.
While some Democrats push President Biden to adopt Trump-era border policies, the divide remains.
“I think they’re just sending a message to politicians: ‘Get this under control,'” said Mark Penn, chairman of The Harris Poll and pollster for former President Bill Clinton.
He added that Americans are warning President Joe Biden that “efforts to shift responsibility for the issue to Trump are not going to work.”
