(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – A recent poll by The Washington Post and the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) revealed that most Americans are against allowing gender-affirming care for minors and the participation of transgender women in women’s sports.
The survey showed that 68% of adults do not support giving puberty-blocking medication to transgender children between the ages of 10 and 14, while 58% oppose hormonal treatments for transgender kids aged 15 to 17.
Additionally, over 60% of respondents believed that transgender women and girls should not be permitted to compete with other women and girls in various levels of sports, including youth, high school, college, and professional leagues.
These findings come at a time when Republicans in several states have been advocating for legislation that would limit minors’ access to gender-affirming care and prohibit transgender women from joining sports teams that align with their gender identity.
So far, 18 states have implemented bans or restrictions on gender-affirming care for minors, according to the Movement Advancement Project (MAP), an organization that monitors state legislation impacting the LGBTQ community. Moreover, legislation in 21 states currently bans transgender student-athletes from participating in sports corresponding to their gender identity.
In the poll, 57% of adults expressed the belief that a person’s gender is determined by the sex assigned at birth, while 43% thought that gender could differ from the sex assigned at birth.
The youngest age group surveyed, between 18 and 34 years old, was most likely to agree that gender can be different from the sex assigned at birth, but even among them, 53% still disagreed with this idea.
Despite these views, most respondents supported laws banning discrimination against transgender individuals in various areas.
At least two-thirds of those surveyed favored prohibiting discrimination against transgender people in the military, K-12 schools, by medical professionals, when obtaining health insurance, at colleges and universities, in the workplace, and in housing. Over 60% of respondents also supported allowing transgender minors aged 10 to 14 and 15 to 17 to access gender-affirming counseling or therapy.
The poll was conducted between November 10 and December 1, 2022, and included 1,338 U.S. adults. The margin of error for the survey was 4 points.
