(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – In a shocking blow to Second Amendment rights, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals recently upheld Colorado’s controversial law raising the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21, which disarms citizens between 18 and 20 years old.
The ruling, which overturns a lower court’s injunction, allows Senate Bill 169 to take effect immediately.
This misguided legislation creates a misdemeanor offense for selling firearms to individuals under 21, with narrow exceptions for police, military personnel, or family gifts.
Rocky Mountain Gun Owners is a staunch defender of constitutional rights. They filed the lawsuit against Governor Jared Polis, arguing that the law infringes on Second Amendment protections.
The organization’s spokesperson, Hannah Hill, vowed to continue the fight, stating, “This is a very temporary setback, and RMGO will be fighting back.”
“This law very clearly violates both the Second Amendment and the Supreme Court’s precedents, and we look forward to ultimately striking it off the books,” she added.
Moreover, the 10th Circuit Court’s decision contradicts the landmark 2022 Supreme Court ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen, which expanded Second Amendment protections.
Judge Philip Brimmer initially blocked the Colorado law, citing this crucial precedent. However, the appeals court chose to disregard this guidance, setting a dangerous precedent for gun rights across the nation.
The court’s decision relied heavily on a misleading interpretation of historical evidence, claiming that before 1900, many jurisdictions prohibited selling firearms to those under 21.
Moreover, Governor Polis’s spokesperson shamelessly described the law as “commonsense gun safety legislation.”
But this Orwellian doublespeak cannot disguise the fact that the measure leaves young adults defenseless against criminals who have no regard for such arbitrary restrictions.
The ruling is part of a broader assault on Second Amendment rights in Colorado as it was one of four-gun control measures signed by Democrat Governor Jared Polis in 2023 under the guise of addressing violent crime and mass shootings.
Yet, the reality is that such laws only serve to disarm citizens while doing nothing to address the root causes of violence.
