With two suspects now facing charges in her brutal stabbing death, justice for this young patriot may finally be on the horizon.
Yet, questions remain as the details of this horrific crime continue to unfold.
Two individuals have been charged in the horrific stabbing death of 23-year-old U.S. Army Private First Class Katia Dueñas Aguilar.
Aguilar, a soldier with the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division, was found dead in her Clarksville, Tennessee residence on May 18, 2024.
The autopsy revealed that she had been stabbed 68 times, primarily in the neck and upper body.
The investigation, a significant partnership between local police and military officials, underscores the importance of collaboration in ensuring justice for service members harmed within our borders.
The suspects, Sofia Rodas, 35, and Aguilar’s husband, Reynaldo Salinas Cruz, 40, have been extradited to Clarksville to face charges.
Rodas is charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, while Cruz faces charges for tampering with evidence.
Before these charges were brought, both were held on unrelated federal charges.
For a patriot like Aguilar, who bravely served her country, this betrayal seems as unfathomable as it does heart-wrenching.
Aguilar enlisted in the Army in 2018 and was known for her dedication and commitment.
Originally hailing from Mesquite, Texas, she leaves behind a 4-year-old son, now deprived of a mother’s love and guidance.
The young soldier had even considered returning to civilian life before deciding to extend her service after consulting with an Army counselor.
Her sudden and violent death has left her family, particularly her sister, Cecilia Ruiz-Aguilar, devastated and seeking answers.
Ruiz-Aguilar explained that her sister had expressed unhappiness and a desire to return home, a dream now tragically unfulfilled.
This ongoing investigation has highlighted the critical partnership between law enforcement and military authorities.
“The successful progression of this case highlights the critical partnership between local law enforcement and military authorities in addressing severe crimes that impact service members and their families,” a statement from the police detailed.
As the case remains active and open, the Clarksville Police Department urges anyone with additional information or footage to contact them.
It is now a community effort to ensure that justice is served for Aguilar and her family.
