(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – Starbucks, the world’s largest coffeehouse chain, has quickly but secretly moved to remove a new chicken sandwich from its menu after a large number of both customers and employees complained that it had given them terrible diarrhea and stomachaches.
The new Starbucks menu item credited with causing the severe bouts of stomach pain and diarrhea is the just recently announced Chicken, Maple Butter, and Egg Sandwich, The New York Post reports.
A number of social media users posted videos or brief comments online about what happened to them after they had consumed the new sandwich.
“Suing for the worst diarrhea of my life. I have been living in my bathroom for 2 days now,” said one of the affected Starbucks customers on TikTok in a post dated June 28.
“Had it last Wednesday… super sick… tested positive for campylobacter (food poisoning caused by raw chicken) Sunday,” another social media user wrote.
“Took out two of my baristas at my store. I’ve been DYING of stomach pain all day,” a Starbucks employee posted on TikTok.
The report makes it clear that Starbucks took measures to quietly eliminate the problematic sandwich just six days after its launch on June 21.
A Starbucks employee posted online a memo sent out by corporate telling its workers to “stop selling and discard” the Chicken, Maple Butter, and Egg Sandwich. It also told employees not to donate the diarrhea-causing sandwiches.
In a statement several days after the numerous complaints on social media, the Seattle-based coffeehouse chain admitted that the new sandwich “did not meet” its quality standards and that it had issued a ban on its sale and a voluntary recall order.
At the same time, a spokeswoman for Starbucks refused to comment on the stomachache and diarrhea complaints on social media.
She insisted that “it’s not related to listeria and salmonella” since the sandwich had been fully cooked and was only heated in coffeehouses before being sold to customers.
