Supreme Uproar: Leaked Opinion Overrules Roe v. Wade

United States Supreme Court Justices

( – Happening Now: In what may go down as one of the most notorious leaks to the press in United States history, a draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization written by United States Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was provided to Politico and published late last evening.

If the draft opinion, written back in February, reflects what becomes the final vote and view of the majority of the court, Roe v. Wade will be overruled after almost a half-century of being the law of the land when it comes to abortion rights.

As the conservative publication Breitbart reports:

“A draft Supreme Court opinion overruling Roe v. Wade has been leaked to the press in one of the greatest scandals to ever hit the nation’s highest court and a possible attempt to intimidate one or more justices to reverse their vote or to ignite a liberal brushfire to pack the Supreme Court before Democrats lose Congress in November.

It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives,” the possible draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito reads, making the case that where the Constitution is silent, the American people govern themselves through elections and elected leaders, not federal judges. It quotes the late Justice Antonin Scalia, who said, “The permissibility of abortion, and the limitations upon it, are to be resolved like most important questions in our democracy: by citizens trying to persuade one another and then voting.” It then adds, “That is what the Constitution and the rule of law demand.” [emphasis added]

Meanwhile, within moments of the leaked opinion being published by Politico, pro-abortion protesters appeared at the steps of the Supreme Court, where court police and security had managed to erect barricades just before the protesters arrived.
