(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – The US House of Representatives voted to censure Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff over his longtime claims that Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Putin’s Russia.
The motion to condemn Schiff (D-CA) was passed along party lines, with 213 GOP members voting in favor and 209 Democrats voting against, Breitbart News reports. The Republican party has a 222-213 majority in the House.
Six Republican representatives abstained by voting “present.” Five of them are members of the House Ethics Committee, who will now have to investigate Schiff under the resolution.
Democrat lawmakers chanted, “Shame!” and “Disgrace” as GOP House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) stood up to read the censure motion.
“I have all night,” McCarthy reacted.
The resolution censuring Schiff declared that he “spread false accusations that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia” in his capacity as the then-top Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
It instructed the House Ethics Committee to investigate the Democrat lawmaker’s “falsehoods, misrepresentations, and abuses of sensitive information.”
“[Schiff] perpetuated false allegations from the Steele Dossier accusing numerous Trump associates of colluding with Russia into the Congressional Record,” the resolution said further.
Since 2016, the California Democrat has maintained there is “clear evidence” in “plain sight” that Trump colluded with Moscow – even as numerous federal probes have concluded there was no proof to that end.
Schiff remained defiant, stating before the vote he would deem the censure a “badge of honor.”
“I wear this partisan vote as a badge of honor, knowing that I have lived my oath, knowing that I have done my duty to hold a dangerous and out of control president accountable, and knowing that I would do so again in a heartbeat if the circumstances should ever require it,”
The report points out that censure is the second most significant punishment for a US lawmaker after expulsion and that such measures have been rare.
Thus, only two Congress members have been censured in the last almost 40 years.
The most recent case was the 2021 censure of Republican US Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona. He was punished for posting on Twitter a cartoon arguably showing him killing Democrat Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
