As captured recently in a video (you can watch the video further down this post) that proves the trend of governments all around the world paying journalists to publish and distribute what those governments want to be published and distributed instead of doing independent fact-based journalism, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern admitted that her government is paying to have journalists publish information about COVID-19 the way it wants it presented to the public.
According to Prime Minister Ardern, because she believed the information on social media about the coronavirus was incorrect, she decided to fund journalists to publish what the government wanted to be published.
As you’ll see and hear, Ardern states:
“We’ve also seen misinformation about COVID-19, particularly through social media. We had to act, so we made it a priority to establish a public interest journalism fund to help our media continue to produce stories that keep New Zealanders informed.”
Of course, it’s long been alleged that similar tactics are being used in the United States to coerce journalists to publish material in the way various presidential administrations wanted it published.
And, there’s a growing movement in the United States to establish “public interest journalism funds” to pay newspapers to print what the government wants to be printed.

In your opinion, should the media be funded by the government? Why or why not?
