(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – With the world facing so many terror threats, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump proposed a new military expansion by creating a national guard for the Space Force and building an “Iron Dome” defense system in the U.S.
Speaking at a National Guard Association conference in Detroit, Trump highlighted his role in establishing the Space Force, the sixth branch of the U.S. military. The Space Force was created in 2019 to protect American interests in space from potential threats posed by Russia and China.
“One of my proudest achievements in my first term was to create Space Force, the first new branch of the armed forces in over 70 years; it’s a big deal,” Trump said.
He continued, “Now that Space Force is up and running, I agree with your leadership — you want this very badly — but I agree that the time has come to create a Space National Guard as the primary combat reserve of the U.S. Space Force.”
“So as president, I will sign historic legislation creating a Space National Guard,” he added. “Space Force has been very important, very, very important.”
Moreover, Trump argued that the U.S. was falling behind in space before the creation of the Space Force, but now, thanks to it, the country is “leading with all of the major metrics in space.”
This announcement comes months after the Biden administration proposed integrating Air National Guard members into the Space Force.
The Department of Defense also requested Congress to override a law that required governors to approve changes to National Guard units, allowing members to transition to the Space Force.
However, this proposal faced sharp criticism from governors and lawmakers, stalling any progress.
In addition, the former president pledged to build an antimissile system similar to Israel’s Iron Dome, which intercepts short-range rockets.
“And we’re going to build a great Iron Dome for missile defense around our nation. Other countries have said Israel has it…” he stated.
He has repeatedly vowed to create such a system, promising on the campaign trail to build “the greatest dome of them all” due to the numerous hostile threats the country faces.
Nevertheless, experts have noted that a U.S. version of an Iron Dome could look different from Israel’s and would likely be expensive. It would also be limited in effectiveness against the kind of short-range missiles it’s designed to stop.
