(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – According to a new report, Joe Biden’s Justice Department will likely target his main political rival Donald Trump with another indictment in the coming weeks while also slapping charges on some of his allies.
The DOJ has already indicted Trump for allegedly possessing classified government documents. He faces 37 charges, most of them under the 1917 Espionage Act.
He also faces 34 charges of falsifying financial information in an indictment by Manhattan’s Democrat DA Alvin Bragg.
In what is increasingly shaping like a crusade against the top 2024 GOP presidential contender, the US Justice Department has now prepared a “superseding indictment” of Trump, The Independent reports, citing its sources familiar with the matter.
A superseding indictment is described as “a second set of charges against an already-indicted defendant that could include more serious crimes.”
The report cautions that federal prosecutors could instead decide to “just” add more charges against Trump.
Their decision would depend on “how they feel” about the progress of their case against the 45th president of the United States.
It points out that Biden’s prosecutors might decide that the Southern District of Florida judge, Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, could grant him “undue deference.”
In that case, they would seek to slap him with news charges in another judicial district.
The news outlet’s sources say that the DOJ team led by Special Counsel Jack Smith is preparing to target Trump with an “additional 30 to 45 charges” – on top of the 37 charges filed on June 8.
That would occur either in a different district or superseding indictment in the same court.
According to the report, the new charges would be based on the evidence against the former president, which isn’t publicly known yet – such as recordings that “reveal Mr. Trump making incriminating statements.”
On top of that, Smith’s team is reportedly prepared to file charges against several of the former president’s lawyers, including former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani.
The leftist news outlet says the attorneys helped Trump “to ignore the will of voters and remain in the White House despite having lost the 2020 election.”
It notes Giuliani reportedly went in for a “voluntary interview” with DOJ prosecutors last month.
