Trump Wins; Platform Approved

Donald Trump

( – In a substantial political victory for Donald Trump, a committee within the Republican National Committee (RNC) has endorsed a party platform that significantly alters the GOP’s position on abortion, aligning it more closely with the former president’s views.

This platform draft, set for a final, private vote on Tuesday, not only reflects Trump’s policies on major areas like trade, immigration, and foreign policy but also moves away from prior commitments to traditional marriage and specific abortion restrictions, The Hill reports.

“President Trump’s 2024 Republican Party Platform articulates his vision to Make America Great Again in a way that is concise and digestible for every voter,” stated top Trump campaign advisors Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles.

Reports from various media suggest that the platform’s abortion policy is now more ambiguously worded and less stringent than in past platforms, despite demands from anti-abortion advocates for a firm stance.

“We proudly stand for families and life. We believe that the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees that no person can be denied life or liberty without due process and that the states are, therefore, free to pass laws protecting those rights,” the platform states.

“After 51 years, because of us, that power has been given to the states and to a vote of the people. We will oppose late-term abortion while supporting mothers and policies that advance prenatal care, access to birth control, and IVF (fertility treatments),” it declares further.

Since the Supreme Court’s decision in 2022 to overturn Roe v. Wade, Trump has been a target of continuous criticism from Democrats; he appointed three justices who played pivotal roles in the reversal of this seminal decision that had safeguarded abortion rights.

Trump maintains that states should independently determine their abortion laws through legislative bodies or public referendums, describing the varying state responses as “a beautiful thing to watch.”

“Donald Trump has made it clear with his own words and actions what he will do if he regains power – rip away women’s freedoms, punish women, and ban abortion nationwide,” remarked President Biden’s campaign spokesperson Sarafina Chitika.

“You don’t have to take it from us, take it from Trump himself: He’s ‘proud’ to have ‘killed’ Roe v. Wade and unleashed extreme bans with no exceptions for rape or incest, which he calls ’a beautiful thing to watch’… Despite Trump and his team’s best efforts, the American people are clear on just how far he would go to rip away their freedoms – and they’ll vote accordingly this November,” she added.

The platform further mirrors Trump’s campaign promises, advocating for the largest mass deportation in U.S. history, preventing a global conflict, abolishing mandates for electric vehicles, restricting male participation in women’s sports, and stopping the alleged misuse of government power, reflecting his numerous legal challenges.
