The clash centers on Boston’s refusal to cooperate with ICE, a move Homan sees as a betrayal of law enforcement principles, Newsweek reports.
Boston’s sanctuary city policies have consistently rejected ICE requests, a position that has prompted Homan to issue this stark warning to reinforce federal authority.

Commissioner Cox emphasized, “The Boston Police Department has pretty defined rules, and we abide by the law here in the state, and we don’t enforce civil detainers regarding federal immigration law.”

“Police commissioner of Boston, you said you’d double down on not helping the law enforcement officers of ICE, I’m coming to Boston and I’m bringing hell with me. I looked at the numbers this morning, I stopped counting at nine, nine child rapists that were in jail in Massachusetts but rather than honoring an ICE retainer, released back onto the street. You’re not a police commissioner. Take that badge off your chest, put it in a desk drawer because you became a politician. You forgot what it’s like to be a cop,” the border czar declared.
Boston, reaffirmed as a sanctuary city under the Boston Trust Act, stands firm in its policies, creating a showdown with federal immigration directives.
Governor Maura Healey and Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell argue the need to adhere to state laws to protect residents from unlawful detention.
Despite the claims from state officials, Homan is set to make his presence in Boston a focal point of federal immigration enforcement, spotlighting the ongoing friction between state and federal authorities.
The House Oversight Committee, as stated by Chairman James Comer, is actively investigating sanctuary city policies with intentions to tighten enforcement through stricter oversight, CBS News reports.
Mayor Michelle Wu, supporting her police commissioner and city’s stance, reiterated, “This is our city. We’re going to continue following & enforcing the laws to keep all Bostonians safe. And it goes without saying that our police commissioner has my complete confidence & support.”
