(TheLastPatriotNews.com) – Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical adviser to the White House, has adamantly denied accusations against him by Republican and conservative figures that he recommended “shutting down everything” at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020.
Fauci appeared on Fox News to fend off the accusations after he announced that he intends to step down in December as the Director of the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases, which he has led for 38 years, since 1984.

Against the backdrop of calls by Republicans such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) for Fauci to be “jailed” over his role in the lockdowns, Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto asked the virologist where he regrets advocating in favor of the 2020 shutdown of the US society and economy.
“Not at all… I think we need to make sure that your listeners understand I didn’t shut down anything,” the White House chief medical adviser shot back.
“There was a lot of consideration among the White House task force that we will be reaching a point where the hospitals, such as in New York City and other places, will be strained to a point of practically being overwhelmed,” Fauci declared.
He argued that instead of a total shutdown with another doctor, he proposed only a partial lockdown for 15 days just so the spread of the coronavirus could be slowed down.
“When Dr. Burks and I came with the proposal that we take 15 days where we essentially get to the point where we slow if not shut some things down, not completely… The record will show, Neil, that we didn’t recommend shutting everything down. We wanted to cause a pause to – to remember the terminology – to flatten the curve,” Fauci elaborated.
As head of the NIAID, part of the National Institutes of Health, Fauci also alleged that he didn’t insist on closing schools because of COVID-19 and that overall, the lockdowns have not done irreparable damage.
“I don’t think it has forever irreparably damaged anyone. If you go back… one of the people that said we have to do everything we can to get the children back in school,” Fauci said, urging the Fox News anchor to check out old footage from his show.
“Go back to some of the clips that you and I had on your own show when I said that. That it is very important that we protect the children from the collateral effects of keeping them out of school. Go to the record. I have said that so many times,” he insisted.

CAVUTO: "Do you regret the sweeping shutdown that some said made things worse?"
FAUCI: "No, I don’t. […] I didn't shut down anything."
