TV reports and social media videos captured the moment when the frontrunner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination was received enthusiastically by the cheering UFC 295 crowd.
Trump, 77, known for his frequent attendance at UFC events, including a notable one in 2019 at Madison Square Garden, made his return to the renowned New York City venue.
Accompanying him were UFC president Dana White, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, and musician Kid Rock.
As he walked to his seat, Trump, who engaged with fans and fist-bumped one of them, watched Diego Lopes win the first fight on the main card.
After his victory over Pat Sabatini, Lopes gestured towards Trump, The Independent reported.
A well-known boxing enthusiast and mixed martial arts enthusiast, Trump entered the arena Saturday night to Kid Rock’s “American Badass” playing in the background.
The event featured a headline fight for the Light Heavyweight title between Czech fighter Jiří Procházka and Brazilian Alex Pereira.
The former president has been in New York amidst a $250 million civil fraud trial involving his business ventures initiated by the state’s Democrat attorney general.
Trump traveled to New York after a rally in New Hampshire. Despite facing legal challenges and opting out of primary debates, including a recent GOP debate, he remains ahead in the polls for the 2024 election, The New York Post reports.
FiveThirtyEight’s latest national polling data places him significantly ahead of other potential candidates, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy.
In addition to leading in several major battleground states over President Biden, Trump has made headlines for his statements regarding the use of FBI and Justice Department powers against his political rivals if he wins the 2024 election.
He faces multiple legal issues, including a federal criminal indictment related to concealing sensitive White House documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate and allegations of conspiring to overturn the 2020 election results.
On the state level, he faces counts related to alleged hush money payments and efforts to influence election results in Georgia. In total, Trump is facing 91 felony charges under the Democrat-led indictments against him.
